I think thats a big mistake for you just taken a liability policy...car insurance will not give you any payment for such situation...

Most of the time we where thinking that we save money coz we get less policies, but in the long run you are not...

I recommend you get more reasonable car insurance policies anw, its for your own good...

If your thinking that its expensive search the net or visit sites like this and collect quotes from car insurance company and compare them and see who offers the best and the cheapest.

You paid for liability only insurance aka- only damage to others cars. Thats why your premiums were probably so cheap... you get what you pay for- they will not give you any money.

Those other answers are correct - as far as insurance coverage goes.

You do have one other avenue of recovery. Depending on who was at fault, you always have the option of suing the S.O.B.

Your insurance company will only pay you for damages in 2 situations. If you have COLLISION (not comprehensive) coverage, or if you have UMPD (Uninsured motorist property damage) AND the person driving your vehicle was NOT at fault for the accident.

Otherwise, even if they do deem it a total loss, there would be no coverage for you to get paid.

If the person driving your vehicle was NOT at fault, and the other party has insurance - you can pursue through their insurance company - and if you do disagree with their total loss assessment, then you can look for comparable vehicles to supply to the adverse carrier so they can see if the value of your vehicle changes.

Good luck.

If you only have liability then your vehicle is not covered in a collision that is your fault or in this case, your friend's fault.
How did the insurance company total your car if you only have liability? The only way to be covered for the damages is to have collision coverage. And since you do not, your claim will be denied. Liability coverage is just that--to cover you against any potential liabilities due to negligence. If you're involved in accident that is your fault, your insurance company will pay for the damages to the other vehicle only. That is why it is a good idea to carry both coverages. If you have an old car (say a 1989 Ford Escort, I wouldn't recommend collision coverage because any minor accident will deem your vehicle a total loss based on repair versus replacement cost. Hope this helps.

Sorry, but with only the liability insurance required by state law, you won't be paid for your car. Unfortunately, that's the risk you take when you attempt to save money by not having collision and comprehensive.
