New Jersey Learners Permit Question Regarding Age?
Nov 15th, 2009 by AutoInsGuy
gross! asked:
I’m 20 years old and I wasn’t able to afford car insurance or a car till recently. I never took Driver’s Ed, but I’m going to take my permit test this week. Now, I know what the age/wait deal is…if you get your permit at 16 you have to practice a year before you get your license, if you get it at 18 you have to practice 6 months, and if you’re 21 or older you have to practice 3 months. I turn 21 in October…so, my question is, once I turn 21, can I go back to the DMV and say I’m 21, I’ve had the 3 months practice, and proceed to take my road test? Or will I have to wait the full 6 months? Also, since I’ll be 21 by the time I get my license, does that mean I won’t have driving restrictions?
I did not answer my own question. What I’m asking is, since I’m getting my permit NOW, at the age of 20, will I be able to go after I turn 21 in October and say I’ve had 3 months rather than have to wait the full 6? Hopefully someone understands what I’m trying to ask.
