I’m asking if even though I myself am not insured, can I drive the insured car.
confusing I know.

Legally no. If you get into an accident you are screwed and you’re parents are liable and will need to pay out of pocket.
*Edit*
Despite that your parents and the car are insured, YOU are not covered under that insurance, therefore you are NOT insured and cannot legally drive.
Yes you can. Be be careful.
Yes you can but if you get in an accident, your insurance would cover the damages.
Not unless you want a big ticket or to get your **** sued off if you have a wreck. No insurance, no driving.
yes u can drive incase of an emergency
No!! You shouldn’t ever drive a car without insurance im not sure of the exact details but i think you can get your license revoked and possibly even be unable to get insurance afterwards if you get caught!
nope r u craz?
You can illegally, but if you get into an accident or a cop pulls you over, your fucked,
No.. It’s illegal to drive without insurance. How did you even pass the test without knowing that?? lol
Nope, you can’t drive. If you kill someone, or damage the cars, your parents will be liable…and it will cost them A LOT of money. The chances of a 16-18 year old driving and killing someone or having an accident are extremely high. You can’t drive anyone’s car right now. And honestly, you shouldn’t be allowed.
physically, yes
legally, no
NO!!! if you have an accident, your parents could go to jail! All it takes is a phone call to their agent to get you insured. If they say they are “working on it,” they really aren’t.
yea. if u have an accident it comes out ur pocket thats all
yea!
u’ll b drivin dirty tho
if u get pulled over u’ll get in trouble
Hell NO! if u get in an accident ur screwed and if u get pulled over u can also be screwed and since ur a new driver thats pretty damn likely to happen
you can but it’s not recommended cause if you get pulled over or in a wreck then you’re boned
NOOOOO DON’T DO IT! I got pulled over for speeding when I had my license but no insurance and now I have to pay almost $1000 for the fine!
if the car is insured under them you can drive
You get pulled, over, you go to jail.
Your mom’s insurance should cover it after they fix the problem.
yes, but you’re not supposed to. i’m 16 and i dont have car insurance yet…
I wouldn’t
Yes you can. If the car you are driving is insured you can drive it. I’m assuming they’re trying to get insurance on your car. As long as the car is insured and the documents are inside the car, you are fine.
By the way, apparently other’s are not totally reading your question. They think you’re driving completely without insurance. You’ll be driving your parent’s car which has insurance, therefor you are fine. The insurance is not on you, it’s on the car.
No. Reasons:
(1) It is illegal to operate a vehicle without insurance
(2) If you get in an accident and seriously injure someone you will be paying off that debt for the rest of your life.
(3) If anything happens to the vehicle you have to pay for it out of pocket.
Well yeah as long as u r driving one of their cars that already have insurance…just don’t drive a car if u have no insurance ‘cuz then u asking 4 trouble!!! >)
Not legally… You were covered as a driver under your parents while you had a permit… Now you are a driver and have to have insurance on yourself… You can have the insurance on your parents’ insurance, but it has to cover you as a liscensed driver.
I’m not sure about Jersey, but i do know that here in Arkansas, you CAN drive under your parents’ insurance, since it covers generally any driver, but it’s still best to have them add you as a secondary driver. NEVER should they list you as a primary driver, since it will make the rate outrageous.
Noooo, if you get in an accident without insurance and the accidents your fault the person can sew you and it would effect your parents, your parents could lose their house for an accident you got in. or if you get pulled over by the cops and you have no insurance that’s a major problem too.
No….specially in NJ they are very strict….then you may never drive again…don’t risk it …. just wait.
You can drive if you are covered under your parents insurance, but if not, you will have to get your own insurance before you get behind the wheel. It is illegal to drive without insurance.
Little known fact insurance first goes with the car on the policy, you can drive Mommy’s car. So if you crash your mommy and Daddy’s insurance will pay. Mom and Dad will have to fight them on this but the ins. company must pay in the end. To avoid a huge conflict with your parents ins. company just hold on the road will still be there when you get your ins…
If you drive their car you need to be on their insurance policy. You can drive a car with no insurance, just don’t get caught or better yet don’t get into a wreck, don’t even get pulled over for that matter. Just get the damn insurance first before you drive, that would cure everything. Don’t be so impatient.
You don’t insure a person, you insure the car. You’re parents have insurance on the car so if you get in a crash it is covered. It’s possible your parents could get dropped or face some serious premium increases since they failed to list you as a driver but it will be covered through the car’s insurance.
You’re parents need to list you as a driver on the car’s insurance.
I am not COMPLETELY sure about state laws but in general no you cannot drive the car, if you get into an accident you have no idea how bad it will be without insurace, plus legally you’re not allowed either, I say wait till you have your insurance, and ask a friend to drive you around or a parent or a sibling, just until you get your insurance. Regardless, no matter how cool it might be to drive it’s not worth having your parents liable to damages and injuries because you’re a minor plus wrecking your car or someone elses car in a crash
Legally and morally its no, regardless of state you should know that. You can get hurt and so can the person in another car you might hit, which means you’ll get no money for damages or medical bills, you can possibly get sued, and plus you’ll have to deal with your flabbergasted and probably highley annoyed parents who have to deal with ANY SINGLE MISTAKE YOU MAKE UNTIL YOU TURN 18 OR GET INSURANCE. So buddy its not like even you can take the blame, you put you, your car, and your parents at risk. Just wait, it’s not worth it
**TIP** accident or not if a cop pulls you over and finds out you don’t have insurance you will get in big trouble too, because it’s not only accidents that will reveal your lack of insurance.
A couple of people have told you correctly- insurance follows the car, not the person. As long as the car you are driving is insured AND you have permission from the owner to drive then you have no problems. The car has to be insured. Your parents should list you as a driver though.
You would need to know the specific terms of your parent’s insurance, it may well cover you, or your name can be added, this will send their premiums up a lot though. My folks never went for that, I had to get my own.
Call the insurance company, and ask them, they will know better than anyone.
You can drive their vehicle, with their permission..yet their auto policy has a clause that states all persons living their household must be added to the policy or excluded.
you should go to and if you enter your information into the form, they’ll give you a quote from different companies and you can compare the different prices for different services. it saves you a looooot of time. i ended up saving about 250 dollars a year.
